Saline or silicone implants are placed underneath either breast tissue or the chest wall muscle depending on patient preference or anatomy. The procedure lasts one to two hours and is typically performed with general anesthesia, although "twilight" sleep may be possible. After surgery the patient’s bust line may be increased by one or more cup sizes. Incision can be in armpit, under breast or areola. The under breast incision is the only one that is often not seen with arms extended above the head.
